Hey! Say! BEST crosstalk duet June 2013
God YES! If Dai-chan were a girl, it would be terrible!
Yaotome: Okay, so apparently today’s crosstalk is going to start with Dai-chan starting off with the letter “E”
Takaki: So…a new way of things, ey?(笑)
Arioka: Eh, eh, eh, REALLY!? …I’ve actually started off with “E” just then…now would you let me off? (笑)
Inoo: Nope, not here…too boring.
Takaki: FYI, you can’t start with “Erotic stories” either. (笑)
Arioka: *thinks for a while* We, went to see a movie the other day, didn’t we? (Eiga, mi ni itta yo ne, kono aida)
Yabu: That’s pretty mainstream. (笑)
Yaotome: Not good enough, Dai-chan. (笑)But yes, we did go see one together.
Takaki: What…what, I WAS NEVER INVITED TO THIS!
Yabu: But like, you never come even if we invite you.
Takaki: I mean, even if it’s a low-ish chance of me going, I do want to be invited! But occasionally Arioka-kun does ask me out to these things.
Inoo: Yeah yeah he asks me too. But then when it comes to an actual event, he’s like, “Sorry…I’ve seen that one already!” (笑)
Yaotome: God yes! If Dai-chan were a girl, it would be terrible! You know, she just goes around flirting with BEST members asking them out to movies-but doing nothing. (笑)
Arioka: Cuz like, after you watch a movie, it’s fun to discuss it right? So what’s important to me is the fact that I’m going with someone… who I’m going with isn’t important.
Inoo: Dude, you’re saying it as if it’s some philosophical statement, but I hope you realize it’s crude. (笑)
Arioka: I believe that was the day of my 19th Birthday. That day, I had passion. I said to myself, “Right, I’m 19 now! I’m going to try something new! I’m going to go to a dance school to polish my dance!” and so I crossed my heart.
Takaki: Eh, so you decided to personally learn dancing?
Arioka: Yep. So I went to this dance school that said “Enter anytime” and I opened the door, and I think they were resting- there are all these people who are just fooling around with their friends. I was like, “Nope, I can’t join this circle” so I closed the door and fell to my knees.
Yabu: That’s…a bit fast. (笑)
Arioka: Yeah, but anyway, I had nothing to do, so I went to the movies by myself, and went home. It was my 19th birthday. And I had no one to talk to so I just send a text to a staff that I knew. (笑)
Inoo: Well, that’s a pretty sad story…it brought me to tears. Internally. (笑)
Arioka: Eh, are you guys okay with being alone?
Yabu: Yeah! Like, I find going to places alone way better!
Takaki: Same here. I even travel alone.
Arioka: Eh, really? I really need someone with me.
Inoo: Yeah…maybe I’m a bit on the Dai-chan side too.
Yaotome: I go for both. Like, I’d rather watch movies with someone, but I like eating out alone.
Yabu: I mean, I’m pretty proud of myself and how much I’m tolerant to being alone. When I was in junior high I went to watch “Sekai no Chushin de Ai wo Sakebu” alone!
Inoo: Woah~ that’s pretty tough! Like, you’re as young as a junior high schooler, and you’re watching a genre like “Sekai no Chushin de Ai wo Sakebu”, AND you’re alone…talk about bravery!
Yabu: IKR? Anyway, Dai-chan & Hikaru went out to the movies together…what have you been up to recently, Inoo?
Yaotome: Oooh I’m interested. Like, you’re not loaded with assignments and essays since you’ve graduated uni…what do you do now?
Inoo: mmmm…I devote myself into sleeping more. So I’m way healthier!
Takaki: OH YES. You’re all hyped up these days it’s getting really annoying. (笑)
Yaotome: Everyone’s like, “SHUT UP INO-CHAN!!!” and getting pissed at him. (笑)
Inoo: I’ve realized the importance of sleep. You know-learnt it the hard way (笑)KYAHAHAHA!
Arioka: Yes, you’re hyped up these days. BUT. You’re still slow at running around in concerts. (笑)
Inoo: That’s that. (笑)
Yabu: So, what do you do besides sleeping?
Inoo: You know, to tell you the truth, since we’ve been packed with concert rehearsals recently, I haven’t had much time on my hands.
Yaotome: Then what are you planning to do after the concerts?
Inoo: What’s with you guys today…you’re so interested in me.
Takaki: Cause you don’t tell us anything…as long as we don’t ask.
Arioka: Eh, it’s not like you’re planning to go ahead with college…are you?
Inoo: Nah. (笑)Right now I’m thinking of getting a license for driving small ships.
Everyone: Eh, REALLY!?
Inoo: Opps, I shouldn’t have said that…I was actually going to obtain it in secrecy and suddenly pop up one day like, “Hey there…WANNA RIDE ON MY BOAT?” (笑)
Takaki: And didn’t you say you’re almost there on a diving license?
Inoo: Yep yep. I’m planning to get the full once it’s a little warmer.
Yaotome: Ino-chan being active…that’s new. (笑)
Takaki: So, what are you up to then Yabu-kun?
Yabu: I just go on small walks around my locals. I mean, I love walks. I love just walking around, going, “Oh, it’s the season of sakuras now…”
Yaotome: Premature aging. (笑)Takaki?
Takaki: Oh I went to a hot spring in Yamanashi.
Yabu: Nice~
Takaki: I wanted to see the sun rise from the top of the mountains so I set off from Tokyo at midnight.
Yaotome: Sounds fun!
Takaki: Let’s all go together some day!
Inoo: Yeah, sure, let’s go!
Yabu: Did you see the episode of SMAPxSMAP with the “5-people trip”?
Everyone: Yep yep!
Yaotome: That was so good!
Arioka: I know~ I was watching that thinking, “having a group is such a good thing”
Ah~ IKR! Be like, “This thing…YABAI” (笑)
Takaki: So it was the first time for SMAP to travel as a group, right? I’m sure we’d even do it…tonight. (笑)
Arioka: Any time really. (笑)You see, the value of our 5-person trip is pretty cheap.
Yabu: Yeah…the 5-person trip by SMAP was fun because their fans didn’t know what to imagine…but you know, with BEST, I’m guessing it’ll be just as the fans would imagine. (笑)
Yaotome: In that show Goro-kun refuse to go on the roller coaster and didn’t go on, but we’re not going to allow that to happen to you Ino-chan, ok? (笑)
Inoo: WHAT!? …but you know, I should be alright if I try my best. (笑)
Yabu: Watching that trip, I really thought my character was a bit like Kusanagi-kun. (笑)
Arioka: Yeah, I guess what you say and do are pretty similar.
Yabu: I was so supped by Nakai-kun crying!
Takaki: I wonder who’ll be crying like that in 20 years. (笑)
Yaotome: I’d say Yabu. He’d be singing “Score” balling over with tears. (笑)
Inoo: Ah~IKR! Be like, “This thing…YABAI” (笑)
Yabu: Ah~ I’m pretty sure I’ll do that(笑)I can totally imagine myself…guys, just go easy on me when that’s going on, ok? (笑)But you know…we’ve never actually been on a trip with the 5 of us.
Yaotome: We’ve been on trips individually with different people, but no…not with the 5 of us. What about karaoke?
Arioka: I used to go karaoke with Takaki…maybe just a few times. I remember him constantly singing V6.
Takaki: Yeah, “Thunder Bird-your voice-“ with me being all like, YO! (笑)
Arioka: Yeah, and I’ve been to karaoke with Yabu-kun too…and Inoo-chan too; just once. I remember him singing “Hitomi wo Tojite” by Hirai Ken san.
Yabu: Here we go again-SekaChu. (笑)I remember a while ago Hikaru & I went to eat out and the place we went to had no restaurant seats left, so they put us into the karaoke room(笑)
Yaotome: Oh yeah~ The room had like, suspicious pink lighting and we were just sitting there, silently feasting on our pasta. (笑)
Inoo: That’s just awkward on so many levels. (笑)But you know, really, I’d love to go on a trip with the 5 of us.
Takaki: I’ll be the driver then.
Yabu: Speaking of which…I remember when we went to Hawaii for work we went to take a night view with just the 5 of us…except it was the manager who was driving us.
Takaki: Yeah~ and 7 were just staying at the hotel.
Arioka: It was a little like the SMAP trip. You know, the manager driving, and Yabu-kun navigating him.
Yabu: The route was soooo hard. Like, you’re going through some normal inhabited area. (笑)
Yaotome: Yeah. And there’s just Yabu going. “Go left! Wait, no, I mean go 90 degree to the right!” (笑)
Arioka: And we were all like, “WTF, a 90 degree?” …until we realized it was ACTUALLY a sharp 90 degree turn. (笑)
Yaotome: And then we started talking about how at night the area isn’t too crime safe…so the manager panicked and tried to lock the doors, but then he’s like, “Wait, I can’t find the key hole!” and we were like, “It’s that button! Press it!” and it actually locked. …Appreciating technology as always. (笑)
Inoo: I swear if we recorded that whole thing it would’ve been so funny! (笑)
Yabu: And then we finally got to the view…6 guys, gazing at the night lights…(笑)
Takaki: That was really pretty!
Inoo: That was so much fun…I’m sure it’ll be so much fun if the five of us go on a trip!
Takaki: IKR. Guys, let’s go to Izu!
Arioka: I observe you pushing Izu these days. (笑)
Takaki: I like Izu, ok?
Yabu: Then you do the planning, we’ll go along with it. SO. Right now we’re in the middle of our national tour.
Takaki: You know, this time’s concert we’re dancing so much! It’s like fitness training!
Arioka: Takaki’s getting cheered on by the staff when the dancing’s really hard….like, “TAKAKi! YOU CAN DO THIS!” (笑)
Takaki: Don’t make it sound as if I’m not usually trying hard. (笑) But really, it’s sooooo HARD.
Yabu: And in the Shizuoka performance of “OVER” Takaki changed his line, “I’m tired, OVER” to “I’m picking leaves of, TEA” (笑)
Yaotome: Yeah! And it was even that part of the concert where we were supposed to be kinda all serious and cool. (笑)
Takaki: Yeah, but I did it in the rehearsals and everyone was like, “DO THAT IN THE REAL THING, OKAY?” so I did it. (笑)
Yabu: And you really did it, so we were like, “YEPYEP, HE DID IT.” (笑)
Takaki: How did the audience react…?I don’t think I really remember. (笑)
Yaotome: Well, to put it into simple words…they were just stirring. (笑)
Yabu: You’ve made effort, Takaki!
Takaki: Well, I guess that’s all I’ve been working for. (笑)
Inoo: We’re looking forward to what you come up with for other areas.
Takaki: Eh, really? …then ideas, please. (笑)
Arioka: I change my line in “Arigato~Sekai no doko ni itemo~” to “Thank you de~su” but then in the real performance I chicken out and say it normally. (笑)
Yaotome: Yeah, Dai-chan’s a chicken when it comes to those things.
Yabu: I’m pretty sure Yamada would do something funny if we come up with stuff…but I don’t think that’s what the fans are looking for in Yamada so we just shut up. (笑)
Takaki: Oh, but then I…never mind. (笑)
Yabu: So, for people planning to come to one of our concerts, I’m telling you to make sure you listen in carefully for our lines-they might be changed!God YES! If Dai-chan were a girl, it would be terrible!

NYC Duet June 2012 Part 1
NYC Duet June 2012
It’s the season of sports… so we’ve got NYC to do a series of sports tests!!!
Hullahoop- The rule that they spin it until it falls to the ground. The three had doubts in how to do it at first, but in the end made records that surprised the staff!
Sit ups- Counting how many sit ups you can do in 30sec! Nakayama & Chinen don’t usually do sit ups, and with Chinen “Can I just do 5?” he says and defies the whole test! Is Yamada gonna win…?
Balance ball- Counting the seconds they lasted by raising their arms and legs of the ground on a balance ball! Yuma screamed “an!” like a girl when he fell off…(笑)
Push ups- Counting how many push-ups can be done in 30sec. To make it a fair test, the staff has set the three to place their chin on the floor every time and that caused the three the suffer… after the test some were lying on the floor word-less, while some had shaking arms…
JUMP! – Just jumping vertical, and measuring the distance. This one apparently the three don’t have any confidence with. “If they had sushi or something at the top, I’d easily grab it though…(笑)” said Yuma.
Stop watch- a simple test of attempting to stop the stop watch at a minute just. The three who has good rhythm sense did this quite well…? Who was the guy who had the most amazing time and screamed, “yeaaaah!”?
Balloon Blowing- Testing to see how many balloons can be blown up in 30 seconds. “This is…plain.” “What the…” “Hey, do you mind if I like, use nose breathing?”
Yamada Interview
When I was a student, my grades at sport weren’t bad, but weren’t that good either. In primary it was good, but in junior high, there were things that I was really good at, on the other hand I was poor at. It’s not that I was actually poor at those sports, it was more like, “Trying in class is uncool.” Kinda thing. I became a total rebel. (笑)My favourite sports is soccer! The first time I’ve ever kicked a ball was when I was in year 3. My classmate was the captain of the local team, and when I went just to try it out, I found it so much fun I joined. The soccer I played at the baseball championships was pretty bad. The courts were a bit packed in, and it was hard to make good moves. I was in the relay that day as well, but I’m such a slow runner. When I was chosen to be the last, I was like, “WHY!?” After the championships, I was just indulging in how poor my stamina was. (笑)
At my high school sports carnival, the thing that left me the most with was the Millipede Race. It’s a pretty amazing member, you know? Cuz there’s Chinen and Yuto & I on the same board. (笑)And there was this sports camp thing when I was in year 1, and guys did rugby. With out considering anything like body size and stuff, we were in class teams, and we were all serious about it, so when I got tackled by a 2m tall guy I literally got blown. But our class won in the end, so I’m cool♪Maybe I’m the type of guy who works hard on hard sports…
The other day, when NYC had a rehearsal together, we decided to go to a café close to the studio cuz we got a little bit of time. At first we were going to a café with French toast and stuff, but there was a shooting of a movie or drama or something, and we couldn’t go in. So we went to the Japanese café that Chinen liked. There was so much on the menu, and I couldn’t choose, so Chinen was like, “the matcha kakigori is good!” and I ordered that. Yuma ate ice cream, and I remember Chinen ordered warabi-mochi. And after that when we were just yapping off, the waiter came and was like, “Thanks for waiting-“ and the thing on the platter was this huge kakigori out of my imagination… no, more of a snowy mountain. I seriously glared at Chinen. (笑)After we ate each other’s orders and listen to Yuma’s latest news, it was time to go back to the studio, so we decided to go out and eat some time.
Nakayama Interview
It’s all sports recently. There’s the sports test today, and the Johnnys Baseball Championships were on. Oh, and before my uni starts I went back to Osaka for about a week, and my friends said, “Let’s go to Kyoto” so I was like, OK, and they for some reason said, “don’t forget your joggers” so I was wondering what we were gonna do, and we rented a hall, it turned out it was a sports competition. Just 7 guys playing basketball, badminton, volley ball, relay, soccer and all that. But don’t ask me why we had to go all the way to Kyoto, cuz I have no idea. (笑)It was so much fun!!! But, apparently I seem really sporty cuz I used to play baseball, but my grades in sport have been normal all the time. I think I’m even really slow at running. I’m not bad at long distances though, I guess. Cuz I remember when I was in yr4, there was this marathon competition in Osaka for kids who play baseball, and you got a certificate if you got within 30th. Then my parents were like, “if you get a prize certificate, we’ll buy you the game you’ve always wanted.” So I practiced real hard, and even when there were yr5s and yr6s, I got 27th out of 360. Such a good system they put me on. (笑)
When I did the drama “Samurai Tenkosei” before and experienced kendo, I got a little bit interested, but it didn’t really last cuz I had to put on those “mask” stuff. I’m claustrophobic…! I can’t even wear one of those full head helmets. Like, you know how they cover the area around your eyes? Well I feel so uncomfortable how you can’t touch your face or hair and stuff and my face gets real itchy. During the drama, I used the tip of a comb to itch my face.
The other day, I sent a happy birthday message to Takizawa (Hideaki)-kun~! And, FYI, on my 18th birthday, Takizawa-kun went out to have dinner with me and the crew in “Shin-shun Takizawa Kakumei” . We had sushi, and when the chirashi-sushi came out, it was decorated with the letters ‘18’ and when I looked carefully, they were made out of salmon-! That really got me! Takizawa-kun himself sang happy birthday to me, and gave me BBQ vouchers… I felt bad using them, but I did, and I just have the case sitting next to my TV. (笑)I can’t do anything at such a big scale as Takizawa-kun yet, but I wanna do something just as special one day-!!

I remember there being this kind of sports test in primary school too. Cuz, I clearly remember I was racing with my friends! I tried so hard cuz I wanted to be the best in the class. …Which, never really happened. I’m actually quite slow on foot. I couldn’t beat the boys who played baseball with throwing… I have sports I’m really good at, but I’m not all-mighty. Like, when there’s basketball in sports, my grades go from 5 to 4. Then when it changes to volley ball, it goes back to 5. I’m not good with basketball. I like it, but I’m not good at dribbling, and maybe cuz the goal is further away for me than other people… But I’m really good with volleyball! I even became team leader before! I liked tossing than serving or attacking. Oh, and I’m kinda scared of marine sports. Cuz, long ago, I almost drowned in Hawaii and Yuya had to help me. If it’s sports in the nature, I prefer snow to the sea. Bobsleighing seems fun!! But I’m not gonna ski. Bobsleighing seems fun cuz… its like a sledge, but with skiing, I can’t trust those thin boards with my weight!
I think Ryosuke said this as well, but the camp in 1st grade was sooo tough! Like marathon at the mountain top, or rugby in the rain, and even the people in the sports department seemed to be tired. But doing that camp, the distance between the class seemed to tighten. Even in rugby, I spoke to the people in different classes and became friends. Though I was pretty surprised how I was jokishly saying, “Then, let’s meet at the finals next time!!” like in one of those mangas, and we actually versed that team at the finals. (笑)Those friendships you make through sports are really cool.
Just then, I went Ohanami with Yuma and Ryosuke. …Or more of a walk through the path with sakuras blooming. (笑)There was this café with a nice balcony, and we were saying it’ll be nice if we could just sit in those cafes and ohanami. Cuz, you know how Yuma came to Tokyo for his uni? It’s still kinda weird seeing Yuma in a studio in Tokyo. I asked him, “Are you used to Tokyo’s railways now?” and he said, “Nah~ it’s too hard ><” Well, to conquer Tokyo, my advice is to conquer the trains first!
